Since September 2000, I have been running art classes for all ages and abilities, for a long standing local community group in Co. Galway, called Portumna Castle Crafts and Gardens.
They currently offer three evening classes and one day class, in a light & spacious, purpose built art room. The classes are held in the Youth Reach building on Abbey Street, Portumna, Co. Galway. There is plenty of local parking around the centre, and a lift within the building for easy access to the second floor, for anyone who might find the stairs difficult. Basic refreshments are also provided during each class.
Classes are open to everyone, and provide a friendly and relaxed atmosphere in which to explore your own individual creativity. We encourage students to experiment with new materials & techniques in order to discover their own unique & distinctive style.
We use pencil, charcoal, pastels, watercolour, acrylic and oil paints, and students have experimented by working on slate, wood and even recycled items such as old saws! The limit of what you can do artistically is often only your own imagination.
Basic materials are supplied in each class for beginners, so that they can try out something they have never attempted before, and once you then decide upon a medium you want to develop, I will happily give advice on what you will then need to buy to continue. If you already have your own materials, we encourage you to bring them along and learn new and interesting ways to use them!
Each class run for a 10-weeks session in both the Spring and Autumn, usually beginning in early February and September. All classes are paid for in-advance, before they begin or on the first night of each class to secure your place. We encourage you to book in advance as places fill up very fast, especially for the Day Class.
Our three evening classes run on a Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday beginning at 7:30 p.m. and running until 10:30 p.m. with a break for refreshments in the middle or whenever you wish to stop.
The Tuesday Day Class begins at 10:00 a.m. and finishes at 4:00 p.m., with refreshments also on hand and lunch. From 12.30 p.m. until 1. 30 p.m.
For further details you can email us at wolflorien@posteo.net or call Herbcrafte 061 925261 and speak to Melanie who organises the classes.
